The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) today announced the unofficial results of the by‐election in Igloolik to fill the community’s seat on the Board of Directors.

The winner of the by‐election was Zacharias Kunuk with 52 votes. Solomon Allurut received 39 votes, Lucasi Ivvalu 38 votes, Gordon Qaunaq 37 votes, Joe Immaroitok 24 votes and Dominic Angutimarik got 17 votes.

“Based on the results of the by‐election, I declare Zacharias Kunuk elected. Official results will be confirmed by a subsequent press release. Zacharias Kunuk will serve as QIA’s Board of Directors representative for Igloolik until December 31, 2014,” said Chief Returning Officer Joanasie Akumalik.

QIA’s next Board of Directors meeting will take place May 14‐17, 2012 in Iqaluit.
