MEDIA RELEASE: QIA extends condolences on passing of Pangnirtung mayor and former MLA Hezekiah Oshutapik

Iqaluit, Nunavut – April 21, 2020 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) extends condolences to the family, friends and community members of Pangnirtung mayor and former MLA Hezekiah Oshutapik.

Hezekiah Oshutapik passed away suddenly last Friday at age 63.

“My thoughts are with Hezekiah Oshutapik family, friends and the community of Pangnirtung during this difficult time” says QIA President P.J. Akeeagok, “Hezekiah was a dedicated community leader who served Pangnirtung for years as an MLA and mayor. He will be remembered.”

Hezekiah Oshutapik was born and raised in Pangnirtung, after completing High School, he became a journeyman plumber as well as an oil burner mechanic. He also worked as a housing maintainer for the housing authority and chair of Pangnirtung Fisheries. Oshutapik is best known as also Pangnirtung’s former MLA and mayor.
