QIA Update on Infrastructure and Development Projects
Iqaluit, Nunavut, May 30, 2023 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) Board of Directors are meeting in Iqaluit this week at the Aqsarniit Hotel and Conference Space.
Tomorrow morning, the Board will receive an update on various infrastructure and development projects in the region. This will include:
o An update on the Pond Inlet Research and Training Center and Nauttiqsuqtiit Multi-Use Facility. Pile installation and materials delivery for the facility is scheduled to occur in 2023, with building construction starting in 2024, and an estimated completion and occupancy by the end of 2026.
o An update on the Multi-Use Facilities in Grise Fiord, Arctic Bay and Clyde River. These three facilities will all be similar in design with functions varying from training facilitation, a garage and workspace, possible visitors centre and an opportunity for leased office space.
o Also on the agenda is a proposal for a Multi-Use Facility in Igloolik. This space has the possibility of an early childhood learning centre, space for youth and elder programming, wellness and healing support and a space for community training.
This update to the board will be open to the public and streamed through the QIA Facebook site and available through ZOOM link in Inuktitut and English.
