 In Media Releases

Full event description:

This expedition will bring together ten (10) Inuit youth, between ages 18 and 25, to embark on a unique adventure in which Inuit traditions and ‘modern’ camping and means of travel are interwoven. It’s a rewarding experience where youth interconnect, gain traditional skills and expand their knowledge of the Itijjagiaq trail history. The team members will learn how to manipulate traction kites in basic wind conditions. The project offers a tremendous opportunity for youth to learn to work together, listen and communicate with each other and address team members concerns to create a fun, inclusive and respectful group environment. The team will complete a 120 km supported backcountry ski expedition from Iqaluit to Kimmirut. The 3-day pre-departure training session begins April 2, 2008 and the 15-day expedition begins April 6, 2008. The cost of the project is $34,665, which will be paid by QIA. This sponsorship is part of QIA’s on-going effort to empower Inuit youth and engage them in meaningful and enjoyable activities.
