Iqaluit, Nunavut, March 26, 2024 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is saddened to hear about the loss of respected Pangnirtung elder, and former QIA elders representative, Joanasie Karpik.

Karpik was a long-time member of the Inuit Heritage Trust and contributed to the Qikqtani Truth Commission while sitting on the QIA Board as an Elder representative.  His knowledge and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, combined with his love for the outdoors and traditional ways of life was invaluable.

The QIA Board of Directors and staff send our deepest condolences to the Karpik family, his children, grandchildren and to the community of Pangnirtung.
