Iqaluit, Nunavut, June 7, 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is pleased to release a series of blog posts highlighting the Tusaqtavut Studies.
This study highlights the set of interviews that took place between 2019 and 2021 with 137 community members from the five impacted communities of the Mary River Project; Pond Inlet, Iglulik, Sanirajak, Arctic Bay and Clyde River.
The topics of interest describe traditional knowledge around traditional resources and the Inuit way of life surrounding the Mary River Project and the potential impacts of the Mary River Mine Project Phase 2, identified by members in the impacted communities.
“It’s imperative that QIA share stories from Inuit about the importance and cultural relevance of the lands and resources surrounding the Mary River Project. The Tusaqtavut Studies highlights what we heard from Inuit” said Olayuk Akesuk, QIA President.
