Iqaluit, Nunavut, February 15, 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association’s (QIA) initiative to help alleviate food insecurity and to support isolation efforts for communities affected by COVID-19 continues with a food voucher program in Arctic Bay.

QIA, in partnership with Arctic Co-Op Ltd, will be delivering food vouchers valued at $250 to Qikiqtani Inuit in Arctic Bay starting on February 15th, 2022.

A second card valued at $250 will be delivered starting on or about March 7th, 2022.

“With the rapidly evolving circumstances and spread of COVID-19 in Nunavut, QIA and staff are working hard to make sure Qikiqtani Inuit have the supports and supplies they need to be able follow orders from Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer” says QIA President Olayuk Akesuk.

“As a confirmed case has been identified in Arctic Bay, QIA is asking community members to stay calm.  QIA is happy to distribute vouchers to each family to lessen stress as we go through this difficult time.  By working together, we can keep our elders, youth and vulnerable people safe.”, says QIA Board Member for Arctic Bay, Jeremy Tunraluk.

Inuit with multiple families living in the same household are asked to contact their QIA Community Liaison Officer for information on additional support.

The funds for QIA’s COVID-19 response come from the Government of Canada’s Indigenous Community Support Fund.
