 In Media Releases

Effective Date: January 28, 2022 – March 15, 2022

Iqaluit, Nunavut – February 02, 2022

The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is now accepting applications for the COVID-19 Community Hunt Program. This program funds harvesting activities in the Qikiqtani Region to increase food security during the pandemic and preserve and advance Inuit harvesting culture.

A one-time $2,000 contribution per eligible applicant is now available through this initiative.  Funding can be used for fuel, food, or other supplies that might be needed while harvesting on-the-land. Harvesters must share their catch with community members at no cost.

The funding for this program is made available through the Government of Canada’s Indigenous Community Support Fund as part of their ongoing COVID-19 relief efforts.

To apply for this program please visit https://www.qia.ca/covid-community-hunt-program/. For assistance with the application, or for questions about other QIA support programs, please contact program coordinator, Kaylee Cooper, at 867.975.8382 or your Community Liaison Officer.

Successful applicants will be required to provide receipts of purchases, report on their hunting and distribution activities, and provide details on how many people benefited from their harvest. Harvesting activities must be completed by March 31, 2022.
