QIA Allocate COVID-19 Funds

 In Media Releases

Iqaluit, Nunavut – October 31, 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is a proud contributor of funds totalling $2.6 million to both the YWCA-Agvik Society and the Uquutaq Society.  The funds received for this contribution came from the Government of Canada’s Indigenous Community Support Fund (ICSF).

Both organizations are “not for profit” groups who advocate and support community members through transitional housing, shelters and supports for women and children.

The Uquutaq Society has received $1.3 million to enable them to purchase two existing lots in Iqaluit.  These lots will be used to support clients who are exiting transitional housing and to maintaining tenancy.

The YWCA-Agvik has also received $1.3 million to enable them to purchase a 4 plex in Iqaluit’s Plateau Subdivision to secure housing for women and children who are escaping violence.

At QIA, we understand that supports for transitional housing and families that are in distressing situations are much needed.  The ICSF re-allocation to support these two societies and to enable them to help our more vulnerable population is a step in the right direction.
