Iqaluit, Nunavut – August 7, 2024 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 academic year. Students can now apply using our unified, easy to navigate online application form for both the QIA Scholarship and the John Amagoalik Scholarship.  This is the 8th consecutive year QIA is offering $205,000 in scholarships.

Eighty (80) QIA scholarships, at $2,500 each, are awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis to students from the Qikiqtani Region pursuing post-secondary education. The John Amagoalik Scholarship, in the amount of $5000, honours the efforts of John Amagoalik towards the betterment of Inuit in Nunavut. Applications from post-secondary students entering a field that promotes Inuit language and culture will be prioritized for consideration.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, August 29, 2024.  To submit your application, all supporting documents are required.

Criteria for both Scholarships:

  • Applicants must have a valid NTI card and be registered from the Qikiqtani Region
  • Applicants must be permanent residents in one of the 13 Qikiqtani communities before they start attending post secondary education
  • Applicants must show proof of enrollment in a post-secondary academic institution
  • Social Insurance Number

Additional criteria for the John Amagoalik Scholarship:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary academic institution, preferably in a field that promotes Inuit language and culture for the September and January semesters
  • A 500-word essay on how you feel your aspirations are influenced by John Amagoalik and the Nunavut Agreement
  • A recent resume
  • Copies of most recent transcripts
  • Two reference letters preferably from a teacher, professor or employer
  • Applicants must maintain a full course load and a passing grade point average to receive both installments of the scholarships
