(December 9, 2013 – Iqaluit) The QIA 2013 Election for the positions of Vice President and the community director for Pangnirtung have concluded. The following are the official elections results for the Qikiqtani Inuit Association:

For the position of Vice President:

Qillaq, James 419

For the position of Pangnirtung Community Director:

Akulukjuk, Tommy 181

Keenainak, Abraham 45

Nakashuk, Limee 46

Qappik, Jaypatee 43

The candidates with the greatest number of votes is declared elected, which is:

Larry Audlaluk for Vice President; and

Tommy Akulukjuk for Pangnirtung Community Director.

As per QIA Elections regulations, any candidate has 72 hours after the polls close to request a recount. The Chief Returning Officer may grant a recount if there are reasonable grounds.
