PSA – Qikiqtani Inuit Association opens Hunters Support Program for Applications

Iqaluit, Nunavut – September 13, 2021 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is now accepting applications for the Hunters Support Program (HSP). This program is intended to increase access to healthy country food among Qikiqtani Inuit by supporting hunters who provide for communities. HSP funds harvesting activities in the Qikiqtani region to increase food security, as well as preserve and advance Inuit harvesting culture, heritage, and traditional ways of life.

The Hunters Support Program is providing five (5) $2,000 grants to each of the Qikiqtani Region’s 13 communities. Harvesters must share their catch with community members at no cost to be eligible and fulfill the requirements of the program.

The funding for this program is made available through the Government of Canada’s Indigenous Community Support Fund as a part of their ongoing COVID-19 relief.

Successful applicants will be required to provide receipts for costs incurred and a write a brief report detailing the harvest and distribution.
