Re: Notice to All Inuit Firms Who Wish to Apply to the MRP Designated Inuit Firm List
Date: August 2014

As per the Mary River Project (MRP) Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA) agreed to between the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) and the Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (BIMC), the MRP Executive Committee will maintain an up to-date list of all Inuit Firms that appear to be capable of providing goods and/or services to the MRP. This list is referred to as the Designated Inuit Firm list.

In order to register to this Designated Inuit Firm list, potential firms must already be registered to the Inuit Firm Registry (IFR) maintained by Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI). Only Inuit Firms that are registered to the MRP Designated Inuit Firm list are permitted to qualify to participate in contracts offered by BIMC and its contractors during the construction, operation and decommissioning phases of the MRP.

For the purposes of the MRP IIBA, an “Inuit Firm” means an entity that qualifies as an Inuit Firm within the meaning of Article 24 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA) and is enrolled in the Inuit Firm Registry of Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) maintained pursuant to Section 24.7.1 of the NLCA.

If your Inuit Firm is in good standing with the Inuit Firm Registry maintained by NTI and carries out the majority of its business in the Nunavut Settlement Area or is from the Baffin Region, you are invited to apply for registration to the Designated Inuit Firm list by submitting a completed Designated Inuit Firm list application form.

To obtain a Designated Inuit Firm list Application Form, please contact QIA by telephone, fax or email at DIFlist@qia.ca to request an application form. Once your request is received, QIA will send a DIF list application form by email to the applicant Inuit Firm’s contact email address, or may be provided by facsimile or hardcopy by mail.

Included in the Application Form are sections for required information and optional information. It is important to note that supplying the optional information will support QIA in being able to further plan additional features related to the Mary River Project, such as identifying contracting opportunities, and, supporting the development of business capacity funding.

Please note that in addition to the Designated Inuit Firm list, a separate Designated Baffin Inuit Firm list will be maintained by the MRP Executive Committee of all Inuit Firms that are registered to the IFR and are from the Baffin Region that are capable of providing goods and/or services to the MRP.

In order for Inuit Firms to participate in contracting opportunities of the MRP, they must be registered to the Designated Inuit Firm list maintained by the MRP Executive Committee. Registration to the Designated Inuit Firm list does not guarantee the awarding of MRP contracts.

Please note that application does not guarantee registration.
