Iqaluit, Nunavut, October 13, 2022 – Notice is hereby given to the Members of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) that an election will be held on December 12, 2022.

The 2022 QIA election is for 9 positions on the Board of Directors:

President – Qikiqtani Region
Community Director – Clyde River
Community Director – Igloolik
Community Director – Iqaluit
Community Director – Kimmirut
Community Director – Pond Inlet
Community Director – Sanikiluaq
Community Director – Sanirajak
Community Director – Kinngait (by-election)

All positions carry a four-year term, except for the Community Director in Kinngait which is a two-year term by-election to fill a vacancy.

To be eligible to vote you must be an Inuk enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, be at least 16 years old on December 12, 2022 and have regularly resided in the Qikiqtani Region for longer than one year.

The nomination period will open on Monday, October 24 and will close on November 4, 2022 at 5pm local time.

If you are interested in being a candidate, you are required to provide a criminal record check completed within the past three months.  This must be received with your Candidates package. Potential nominees are encouraged to start this process with the RCMP immediately. Nomination forms for interested candidates will be available from the Chief Returning Officer (CR0), Monica Ell-Kanayuk, Community Liaison Officers (CLO), Ayaya Marketing and Communications, or from QIA’s website as of October 24.

Requirements to be a candidate are as follows: are Inuk, are 16 years of age, have been a resident of the Qikiqtani region for a period of longer than a year, are a resident of the electoral community and have had a criminal record check completed within the last three months.
