Interpreter Translator Conference to be held in Iqaluit

Iqaluit, Nunavut, November 25, 2024 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is excited to announce that an Interpreter Translator Conference will be held in Iqaluit between February 3 and February 6, 2025.

This is a pilot project to better understand where more resources and terminology is needed. Further plans to expand the conference to the Qikiqtani region will be considered once we have more information on what further resources Inuit see are needed.

The QIA understands the lack of resources and training opportunities for Qikiqtani Inuit that specialize in language preservation and providing Interpreter Translator services. This conference will be a great start to sharing language knowledge and terminology. If you are in Iqaluit between February 3-6, 2025, and are interested in participating in the conference, please contact Karen Flaherty at kflaherty@qia.ca or fill in the application form here: https://www.qia.ca/applications/interpreter-translator-conference/

Supports may be available to Language Specialists from outside of Iqaluit.

The conference will be able to host up to 70 participants. Should there be more interest than anticipated, priority will be given to Qikiqtani Inuit that are self-employed and or training in the interpreter translator field. More details will follow in January of 2025.
