 Position Title: Manager of Communications

Are you a strategic communicator with a passion for engaging communities? The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) QIA is seeking a skilled Manager of Communications to lead our public relations, digital presence and media outreach.

The Manager plans, directs and evaluates the day-to-day communications-related activities and provides communication planning advice to the division, ensuring all communications are managed in a strategic manner that influences and promotes a strong and positive organizational presence.

In this vital role, you will:

  • Oversee QIA’s online presence and social media strategy;
  • Oversee website management;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the media and key stakeholders;
  • Provide media coaching to senior leadership on messaging and interview techniques;
  • Ensure clear, consistent, and impactful communication with Inuit, resource developers, governments and the public.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, this role plans, manages and prioritises QIA’s internal and external communications.  This entails working closely with the Director and departmental leaders to establish processes and identify priorities for improving QIA’s internal and external communications. The incumbent must have the ability to collaborate across department and with senior leadership. The Manager, in close consultation with the Director, develops a full range of communications materials, manages and executes community consultations, media events as well as other public engagements.  The position provides support to the organization by implementing communication strategies and plans related to QIA’s activities and programs. The Manager will research content, prepare reports, articles and educational texts as required.

The Manager will provide leadership and oversight of the communications team, manage digital and media platforms, establish networks for products and services, develop appropriate systems for managing, distributing and recording communication materials. This role requires a dynamic and innovative thinker to engage audiences in new ways and adapt to new trends in media and technology. This position reviews and evaluates communication proposals and provides advice on communication strategies and procedures. Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, and industry partners is required. Strong leadership skills and exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential for success in this role.

The incumbent in this role must have a strong understanding of communication practices, trends, branding, messaging and audience engagement. Applicants must demonstrate four (4) years of progressive experience in communications related roles. Experience preparing, proofing and editing press releases, speeches, briefing packages and other communications materials is a requirement. The ability to create digital campaigns and promotions, and measure effectiveness through analytics and data is also required. Experience leading teams or supervising others is an essential component of this role. Confidence in public speaking and delivering presentations is essential in this role. Candidates with Inuktitut language skills are preferred.

A degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Public Relations or Marketing is the ideal education for this role. A combination of related education and additional experience may be deemed an acceptable equivalency. Project Management certification is an asset.

The salary range for this position is $94,558 to $119,773 per annum, plus a Nunavut Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum.

A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required. Housing is not provided.
