The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is seeking an analytical and detail-oriented incumbent for the role of Social Researcher within the Department of Inuit Programs & Services. The Social Researcher conducts research, supports engagements, provides evaluations and makes recommendations with respect to QIA’s priority social programs, initiatives and service areas. This role works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. This position assists the department ensuring that the right programs and initiatives are designed and delivered in accordance with best practices and in alignment with QIA’s Strategic Plan and corporate policies, and that they have the intended outcomes and benefit Qikiqtani Inuit to the maximum extent.
Reporting to the Director, the Social Researcher is responsible to provide the organization with a reliable and detailed understanding of the broader program and policy environment, both regionally and territorially. This role will compile and analyze data, to synthesize and presents results, identify risks and implications for the organization. With broad subject matter expertise, the Social Researcher leverages knowledge and relationships to support QIA in identifying and pursuing third-party funding opportunities, completing proposals, and supporting the administration of service agreements and associated reporting obligations. This role may participate in territorial or national working groups. The Social Researcher is self-motivated, works well independent and is a solutions-focused critical thinker. The information, insight and recommendations provided through this role directly contribute to the appropriateness and effectiveness of QIA programs and services, and to the overall strategic direction of the organization.
Applicants must have a working knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement, particularly Article 32. Familiarity with Inuit Nunangat, Inuit rights and self-governance and policies related to self-determination, economic development, and social well-being is needed for success in this role. This role requires a strong communicator to develop briefing notes, provide reports and present findings and recommendations. Candidates must demonstrate three (3) years of professional work experience conducting research, analyzing data and developing option papers or recommendations. Experience preparing funding applications and completing funding reports is also required. Fluency in both English and Inuktitut is a strong asset.
This role requires a critical thinker who can effectively communicate and handle difficult situations in an appropriate manner. The incumbent will need an understanding of jurisdictional roles and responsibilities within federal, territorial, and the Inuit democracy as it relates to Inuit social and cultural wellbeing. Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Generally, a post-secondary degree in Public Administration, Social or Political Science is required. A combination of relevant education and direct experience may also be deemed an acceptable equivalency.
The salary range for this position is $89,582 to $124,086 per annum, plus a Nunavut Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum. A satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
