Position: Marine Advisor, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
Tenure: Term until March 31, 2025 with possibility of extension

The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) QIA is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable individual to fulfill the role of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Marine Advisor. Reporting to the Director of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit & Engagement (IQ&E) the IQ Marine Advisor will facilitate meaningful community engagement and will support marine spatial planning initiatives including considerations for conservation activities, fishing, energy developments, and cultural uses that will keep the oceans healthy and productive for generations to come. The IQ Marine Advisor will represent QIA in meetings with stakeholders, working groups and committees. This role will assist with development of work plans and proposals related to the marine environment and with Indigenous research priorities that support sustainable use and development in Arctic marine regions. The IQ Marine Advisor provides Inuit in the Qikiqtani region with an opportunity to increase understanding of environmental, socio-economic, and cultural impacts of marine environment use, management and conservation to help contribute to informed decision making in the Qikiqtani Region.
This role requires strong communication skills, organizational and priority setting skills, along with ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information. Willingness to travel to remote areas and conduct fieldwork is also required. The incumbent will need to have proficiency in using computer software, GIS and Microsoft Office suite. Applicants must demonstrate community engagement experience, and knowledge of applying Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit to address resource management.
Working knowledge of marine conservation is required. Experience participating or leading workshops and giving presentations to working groups or committees is also required. Well-developed writing skills are required to develop technical reports, briefings and presentations. Fluency in English and Inuktitut is also required.
The salary range for this position is $84,604 to $124,086 per annum, plus a Nunavut Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum. Housing is not available.
