As the Inuit Engagement Specialist, you’ll be a bridge between communities and the Mary River Project, helping to identify and overcome barriers to participation while championing education, training, employment, and social benefits for Inuit. Your work will be instrumental in ensuring that Inuit perspectives and priorities shine through in every aspect of the IIBA implementation.

Reporting to the Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA) Manager, this vital role focuses on strengthening relationships, amplifying Inuit voices, and ensuring meaningful two-way communication between Inuit, stakeholders, Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA), and Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation.

A key aspect of the work of the Inuit Engagement Specialist is to help identify and overcome barriers to Inuit participation at the Mary River Project. The incumbent is responsible for in ensuring the successful implementation of the IIBA by delivering the employment, business, education and training, and social benefits associated with the Mary River Project to Inuit. This is achieved through building and maintaining relationships with individuals and stakeholder groups at the community level. The incumbent ensures that Inuit perspectives, experiences and priorities are reflected in the work of implementing the IIBA. In a sense, the Inuit Engagement Specialist serves as a primary window into IIBA implementation for Inuit of the Qikiqtani Region.

Applicants must demonstrate an awareness of the Nunavut Agreement and have knowledge of the Mary River Project and the Mary River IIBA. Highly developed communication skills are required, along with fluency in both English and Inuktitut.  Superior organization skills and attention to detail are also required. Experience giving presentations or facilitating workshops is a requirement for success in this role, as this position will act as a trusted resource to senior management. Applicants must have proficiency in Microsoft Office and have two (2) years of experience with data entry and program administration.

Experience working in a mining environment is an asset.

Generally, a diploma in Indigenous Studies, Social Studies or Environmental Technology is required.

Project Management certification is an asset. A combination of relevant education and related experience may also be deemed an acceptable equivalency.  An acceptable Criminal Record Check is required.

Salary range for this position is $84,604 to $124,086 per annum, plus a Nunavut Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum. Housing is not provided.
