The Inuit Stewardship Program is responsible for monitoring the region and harvesting for the benefit of the community. As stewards the Nauttiqsuqtiit monitor sea ice conditions for safe passage, conduct environmental research, hunt, and harvest, support elder and youth land-based activities, and contribute to search and rescue efforts in their communities.

The Inuit Stewardship Community Supervisor position will lead the implementation of the Inuit Stewardship Program.  Responsibilities include performance management, planning and directing crew activities such as patrols, hunting & harvesting trips, environmental research and monitoring, on-the-land activities, youth/elder engagement activities as well as collecting and reporting on program data.  The Supervisors are required to keep detailed reports of program activities, achievements, and challenges for ongoing evaluation of the Inuit Stewardship Program. Previous related experience will be an asset.

The positions in the Nauttiqsuqtiit Program are physically demanding and the incumbents must be in good physical health to perform the job safely and effectively without injury. A pre-employment medical must be completed prior to starting employment. Once hired, incumbents must be willing to obtain First Aid Certification, PAL Firearms Safety Certification and a Vessel Operators Certificate. This position works 40 hours per week on a non-standard schedule.

Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of the land, waters and wildlife in their community and surrounding areas, and have knowledge of travelling on-the-land and survival skills.  Experience hunting, harvesting, and safe handling of a firearm is required.  Skills to maintain and operate equipment, such as a snowmobile, is also required.  Basic computer skills are needed, and a valid driver’s license is required to operate QIA vehicles.  Knowledge of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and fluency in Inuktitut is required.

An acceptable Criminal Record Check and clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required. No firearm related charges will be acceptable.

Starting salary is $87,618 per annum, plus a Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum.
