The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) today announced that it is holding a by-election for the community director position of Igloolik after the resignation of John Illupalik due to personal reasons.

“We thank John for his service with QIA. It is important this position be filled as quickly as possible to ensure our Board of Directors is at full strength during this busy and important time with QIA,” said President Okalik Eegeesiak.

QIA is calling for a by-election to be held on Monday, April 30, 2012. The Call for Nominations will open on March 12 and close 5 p.m. on March 26.

The Chief Returning Officer for the by-election is Joanasie Akumalik.
