BLOG: QIA Continues Support for Hunters and Trappers Organizations

 In Blog, COVID Post, COVID19

QIA President P.J. Akeeagok recently presented each Hunters and Trappers Organization (HTO) in the Qikiqtani Region with a contribution of $6,577 to support food security in our communities.

These funds are intended to support hunting, harvesting, and sharing country food in Qikiqtani communities. QIA successfully applied for one-time funding under the Community Food Centers Canada’s Good Food Access Fund. The Good Food Access Fund was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to help front-line organizations provide emergency food access in their communities.

In addition to this support, QIA partnered with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. to provide $10,000 to each HTO in the Qikiqtani Region for community hunts. QIA also rolled out a COVID-19 Emergency Response Plan in late March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are proud to help HTOs continue their great work in Qikiqtani communities. We will follow up with you with more details on this initiative on our website and social media.
