The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is hosting its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Iqaluit. The AGM will be followed by a feast at Inuksuk High School including a performance by Uvagut band.

The agenda for this year’s AGM includes selection of new QIA key programs. After extensive consultations with all 13 Qikiqtani communities this past spring, QIA selected daycare and early childhood education and cultural activities as the themes for our new program key programs. QIA staff have been working on program proposals based on these themes.

The board will review the program proposals drafted by staff and select which projects will be developed and delivered for Qikiqtani Inuit.

The new programs stem from our new revenue policy which created the Legacy Fund and the Benefits Fund. As the Legacy Fund grows its revenues go to the Benefits Fund to increase programs for Inuit. In the next year, QIA expects to have an additional $1 million for programs across Qikiqtani, thanks to these funds.

The board meeting is open to the public, the draft agenda is available on our website.

The community feast will feature live music, country food, door prizes and a candy toss.
