Iqaluit, Nunavut (January 10, 2008) The Qikiqtani Inuit Association is pleased to announce that on December 12, 2007, Isaksimagit Inuusirmi Katujjiqatigiit / Embrace Life Council approved QIA’s 2007 – 2008 NAYSPS proposal in the amount of $93,800.

This funding facilitates QIA’s implementation of the National Inuit Youth Suicide Prevention Framework, a policy developed by Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, in partnership with QIA, that aims to engage Inuit youth in meaningful activities. Activities that will be run under this program in 2007-08 include:

  • QIA Traditional Camping Program – Iqaluit (coordinated by Moosa Akavak and Pitsula Akavak)
  • QIA Traditional Camping Program – Iglulik (coordinated by Harry Ittuksarjuat)

The purpose of the NAYSPS initiative is to engage Aboriginal youth in meaningful and enjoyable activity that is sustained over time and connects the youth with others.
