QIA Board of Directors Select New Executive

Today, the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) announced its new Executive chosen by the board of director’s during their February board meeting.

Okalik Eegeesiak, President of the Association said, “Representing and serving Inuit beneficiaries is central to our work as an organization and continues with the changes that we go through. I am pleased that we have another strong and committed team to make critical decisions for our region.”

After the elections last December, changes have lead to vacancies needing to be filled. Levi Barnabas, Community Director for Arctic Bay was selected by QIA board members to sit on the Executive and becomes interim Chair of Qikiqtaaluk Corporation. He replaces George Qulaut who was the runner up in the presidential race and previous Community Director for Igloolik.

Philip Paniaq rejoins the Executive, while also representing Pond Inlet. The Executive team is completed by George Eckalook, Vice President; Joe Attagutaluk, Secretary‐Treasurer and Larry Audlaluk, Grise Fiord Community Director and Chair of Kakivak Association.

Executive members serve for the duration of their elected term.
